The Economy Secretary of Sinaloa, Javier Gaxiola Coppel, has announced that Ecuadorian shrimp will not be included in the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Mexico due to concerns for Mexican shrimp producers. This decision is based on the price advantage and subsidies enjoyed by Ecuadorian producers, which could potentially disrupt the Mexican shrimp industry. In other developments, Casimiro Zamora Valdez, a deputy from Sinaloa, has highlighted issues related to the importation of low-quality shrimp from South America and delays in fishing permits. These concerns are being addressed with the National Fisheries Commissioner and the commissioner of Conapesca.
