Sichuan, the highest latitude litchi producing area in China, is expected to have a bumper year with a high fruit setting rate and normal growth. The province is projected to produce over 60,000 tons of litchi this year, but it cannot make up for the national production capacity gap of over 1.5 million tons. Hejiang County, the largest litchi cultivation area in Sichuan, is at a disadvantage in terms of cumulative light and temperature, resulting in lower yields compared to other production areas like Fujian, Guangxi, and Guangdong. The marketing time for Sichuan litchi is also extended, with the harvest season starting from mid-July and continuing until September, which is about a month later than other areas.
