On January 24, Sichuan released 9 new rice and corn varieties approved by the national review, including 3 rice varieties and 6 corn varieties. On the same day, the 9 new varieties were showcased at the Tianfu Modern Seed Industry Park, attracting nearly 500 seed dealers and industry professionals from all over the country. The 3 rice varieties include "Liangyou 2109," "Huihe You 536," and "Jincheng You 2137"; the 6 corn varieties include "Chengdan 372," "Junlong 1543," "Junlong 218," "Junlong 1517," "Junlong 99," and "Junlong 841." Among them, the corn variety "Chengdan 372" is particularly eye-catching, as it achieved an average yield of 1419.48 kilograms per mu, setting a new record for corn yield in the southwest region. According to the introduction, the corn planting density in the southwest region is relatively low, mainly due to the steep mountain slopes, and the older varieties have poor adaptability and are prone to lodging. The developer of "Chengdan 372," He Wenzhu, Director of the Crop Research Institute at the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, introduced that this variety has the characteristics of "3 doubles and 5 resistances and 1 tolerance" — dual use for grain and feed, medium or above resistance to 5 major diseases, and tolerance to high-density planting. "Our area has an altitude of around 2700 meters, and few corn varieties can adapt. We used to mainly grow an old variety, with a yield of only over 500 jin per mu, and we have been looking for a replacement variety." Seed dealer Zhao Shishou from Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture, expressed interest in "Chengdan 372," saying, "I plan to try planting it this year." The rice varieties also performed well. "Huihe You 536" and "Jincheng You 2137" have been optimized in terms of plant type and rice quality. "Huihe You 536" combines good seeds, good taste, and strong regenerative ability, helping growers achieve "one kind, multiple harvests"; "Jincheng You 2137" is known for its high yield, stable production, and disease resistance, making it an ideal choice for the unique climate of the Wuling Mountains. For a long time, the seed industry has often faced bottlenecks such as slow research and development, difficulty in transformation, and limited production capacity. These 9 varieties are all operated by Sichuan Junlong Biotechnology Co., Ltd.
