Silviculture contributes to food security in Minas Gerais

The Minas Gerais State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply reported that the relationship between planted forests and food production integrates the productive chain of the agribusiness sector in the state. In addition to supplying raw material for cellulose, paper, and charcoal, planted forests are used as a source of energy and productive input at different stages of food production. Minas Gerais concentrates the largest area of planted forests in the country, with 2.3 million hectares, and the department points to the strengthening of silviculture as one of the priorities of the state government, also focusing on contributing to food security.
