(Sinan=Yonhap News) Reporter Cho Geon-yeong = A domestic peanut production facility has been established on Jaeundo Island in Sinan County, South Jeolla Province. Sinan County announced on the 6th that it completed a peanut processing facility (705㎡) on Jaeundo Island at the end of last year, and has started production by signing an entrusted operation contract with a specialized peanut processing company. This factory produces main processed foods such as roasted peanuts, peanut butter, and peanut oil, which are sold through online distribution malls. It is expected that the factory will produce 50 to 60 tons of processed products annually using Sinan peanuts as the main ingredient, and through this, it will contribute to regional economic revitalization by establishing a mutually beneficial structure through contract cultivation with local farms. Jaeundo peanuts, which are grown in clean seas and fertile sandy soil, are popular for their large kernels and excellent taste and richness. Last year, 20 farms cultivated 29 hectares and produced 90 tons, and the cultivation area is continuously increasing. A county official said, "The peanut processing facility is an important hub facility that enhances the competitiveness of regional agricultural products and contributes to increasing farmers' income."
