From the start of the 2023/24 season to April, Russia exported over 2.7 million tons of meal, an increase from the previous season's 2.36 million tons, according to OleoScope agency. The report highlights a rise in sunflower meal exports, a slight increase in soybean meal exports, and a decrease in flax meal exports. Demand for Russian meal in the domestic market remains high, with exports accounting for about 30% of total production. Despite a decrease in exports to some EU countries, there has been an increase in imports of Russian meal by France, Spain, and the Netherlands. The potential introduction of EU duties on Russian agricultural products has led to concerns and a reevaluation of trade routes, with a shift towards China, Belarus, and Turkey. In the event of these duties, an increase in meal production is expected, leading to higher exports. The European Commission's proposal to increase tariffs on imports from Russia and Belarus aims to protect EU farmers and prevent market destabilization.
