High pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been contained to a single poultry property, Hillgrove, in Otago, New Zealand. No other connected properties have been infected, and no sick poultry have been reported elsewhere in the country. The farm remains under strict biosecurity lockdown, and more than 160,000 chickens have been depopulated from the affected sheds. The national chicken supply remains secure, and there is no risk to food safety or human health.
