A study conducted by Agrícola, Ganadera y Forestal Queñi SpA and Comercial GoodFood4U SpA, with support from the Foundation for Agricultural Innovation (FIA), has found that the commercial cultivation of maqui in southern Chile requires rational irrigation. The research, conducted over three years in a pilot orchard in the Los Ríos region, identified six key aspects for a successful maqui orchard. These include the need to select the most adapted ecotype, manage fungal diseases, implement a conduction and pruning system, apply rational irrigation, correct soil phosphorus levels, and adjust soil pH in acidic soils. The study also highlighted the need for technical information on crop management, including fertilization and irrigation requirements, and pruning and driving techniques. The first technical sheet for the production of organic maqui for mechanized harvesting in Chile was developed as a result of the project.
