Smart Aquaculture Technology Support Task Force in operation in South Korea

The National Institute of Fisheries Science recently announced that it has launched the ‘Smart Aquaculture Technology Support Task Force (TF)’ and held a kick-off meeting to support the stable establishment and smooth operation of smart aquaculture farms and smart aquaculture clusters. Smart aquaculture is gaining attention as an alternative to responding to climate change and going beyond natural aquaculture, but currently, it is only operated in some freshwater fish (eel and rainbow trout) aquaculture farms in Korea and has not been expanded to target saltwater fish (saltwater fish). The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has been promoting the establishment of smart aquaculture clusters in five regions, including Busan, Sinan, Gangwon, Pohang, and Jeju, since 2019.
