In 2021, despite the pandemic, there was a positive growth in the export value of fruits and vegetables in two Australian states, Queensland and Tasmania, with Queensland seeing a 24.5% increase and Tasmania a 15.3% increase. However, at a national level, the export value of fruits and vegetables remained steady. The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that the export value of fruits was down by over 17% to $1.36 billion, and vegetable exports were down by nearly six percent to $452.4 million. The pandemic has caused increased costs and logistical problems for exporters, leading to the introduction of the International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM) by the Australian government. Despite a drop in export values, import values for both fruit and vegetables increased.
