Songkhla province in Thailand is the second largest producer of beef goats in the lower South, with a 12% increase from the previous year, reaching a total of 58,353 beef goats as of February 2022. This increase is due to the easy rearing and climate resilience of goats, which are raised by farmers as a supplementary source of income. The average cost of fattening a goat is 2,655 baht/head, with a net return of 1,160 baht/head. Most of the goats are sold to merchants for distribution within the province and for export to Vietnam and Malaysia. The Office of Agricultural Economics (NESDB) 9 is supporting goat farming by providing research and development, and promoting the establishment of standardized slaughterhouses and goat meat processing to enhance market expansion and development.
