Sorghum cultivation has been gaining ground in the farms of Western Bahia and, for the 2025/26 crop, it shows an impressive growth of 25% in the cultivated area, increasing from 160 thousand to 200 thousand hectares. According to information from the 2025/26 Crop Bulletin of Aiba, the expected productivity for sorghum is 60 bags per hectare, remaining stable compared to the previous crop. The estimated total production is 720 thousand tons, up from 576 thousand tons of the 2024/25 crop. The advancement of the crop is related to its tolerance to adverse climatic conditions and its strategic role as an alternative to corn in the second crop, especially in areas with lower water availability. Sorghum has been consolidating itself as an efficient crop rotation option, contributing to the sustainability of the production system and to the control of pests and diseases.
