South Korean mackerel imports down 9%

Total imports were 36,420 tonnes, down 9% from the previous year's 39,812 tonnes, representing 4.1% of the total fish landing of 878,732 tonnes. As of November, 30,339 tonnes (83%) of frozen mackerel were imported from Norway, 3,741 tonnes from China, 1,352 tonnes from Taiwan and 611 tonnes from the Netherlands. The previous year also saw imports from Ecuador and Lithuania. Import prices for frozen mackerel by country are highest in the UK at US$2.23/kg and Norway at US$2.24/kg, followed by China at US$1.98/kg and the Netherlands at US$2.03 USD/kg, Germany - USD 2.10/kg and Taiwan - USD 1.48/kg.
