In 2024, South Korea's total seafood imports decreased by 14% from 2023, totaling 40,928 tons or approximately 4.5% of the total. The majority of these imports, 93%, were frozen mackerel from Norway, amounting to 38,204 tons. Other significant sources included China, the Netherlands, and Germany, contributing 4%, 0.2%, and 0.02% to the total imports, respectively. The average import price for frozen mackerel increased by 11% from the previous year, reaching $2.42 per kilogram. The import value of frozen mackerel also saw a decrease, dropping from $104.58 million in 2023 to $98.99 million in 2024.
