South Korea has seen a dramatic decrease in sardine imports, with a 98% drop compared to the same period last year, importing only 207 tons in the first half of this year. Sardines now make up only 0.02% of the country's total seafood imports, which stood at 44,518 tons. All of the imports were sourced from Russia, a shift from the previous year when 49.9% of the sardines came from Russia and 50.1% from Mexico. The reduction in imports is attributed to fluctuations in the international seafood market, stricter import regulations, and supply chain issues.
