Soybean cultivation in Uruguay based on satellite information

For 8 years now, URUPOV (Uruguayan Association of Plant Producers and Breeders) has been carrying out work that has become a reference for the agricultural sector. It involves remote sensing (using satellite information) of soybean crops, the main crop in the country. It does the same with other crops, such as rapeseed and rice. Satellite information (Sentinel sensor images) is corroborated with field information, with GPS points. With this information, added to the application of geographic information systems, tools from the Google Earth platform and vector information obtained in the field, URUPOV prepares an annual report with data and analysis. Briefly, the work consists of digitalizing, from satellite information, all the fields with summer crops. Then, using algorithms and visual control over pre-identified areas, the soybean fields are differentiated, from which the analyses are made. Results.
