In the last five years, Spain has seen a dramatic increase in its pistachio cultivation area by 145%, reaching 78,495 hectares, as per a study by Agróptimum. This growth is attributed to the crop's profitability and drought resistance, with most of it being grown under dryland conditions. The pistachio industry in Spain generates over 800 million euros in business volume and employs more than 200,000 people. The majority of the production (90%) is exported, primarily to Italy, the United States, and Germany.
