Spain has reported an average of one serious food alert per week due to issues with food imported from third countries, with 58 alerts notified to the European Union Food Alert Network in the past year. The main issues include breaks in the food cold chain, bacterial presence, and high levels of mercury, cadmium, or histamines. Despite these issues, compliance with EU entry requirements remains high at over 96%. Following the detection of hepatitis A in Moroccan strawberries, consumers are being urged to choose Huelva strawberries, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is being asked to take urgent action.
