Spain has experienced a significant surge in pistachio cultivation in the past five years, with the planted area nearly doubling from 32 thousand hectares in 2019 to over 78 thousand hectares in 2023, marking a 145% increase. This expansion is attributed to the crop's drought resilience and high profitability, positioning Spain favorably in the global market. A study by Agróptimum highlights the potential for further growth in both production and domestic consumption, mirroring the success of other crops like olives and almonds. The pistachio's adaptability to the Iberian Peninsula's climate, particularly its tolerance of cold and hot temperatures, has been pivotal to its increasing popularity.
