Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez and Chinese Director General of the General Administration of Customs, Sun Meijun, have signed a protocol allowing Spain to export cherries to China. Interested Spanish exporters will need to register and pass a compliance audit. Spain, the European leader in fruit exports to China, will soon start the registry and audit process through the Ministry of Agriculture. Despite climate change impacts, Spain's cherry production and export volumes have varied. In 2024, a reduction in local production is expected due to high temperatures, but exports to the EU and non-EU markets are projected to reach 33,440 tons and 6,528 tons, respectively, with the UK being the largest non-EU market.
