The 2023-2024 vegetable production campaign experienced a 1.7% increase in total production, reaching over 8.3 million tonnes, with a trade balance surpassing 6.5 billion euros. Despite challenges such as high temperatures and pest issues, greenhouse vegetable production rose by 2.6%, particularly in tomatoes, peppers, and aubergines. Export volume grew by 4.3%, with trade value 14.5% higher than the average of the last five campaigns. Outdoor vegetable production remained stable, with notable growth in onions, garlic, and carrots, contributing to a positive trade balance of 2.627 billion euros. Spain continues to be the leading vegetable supplier to the EU, holding a 35% share in key products, with lettuce as the primary open-air vegetable supplied.
