Katsina State in Nigeria is facing severe climate change impacts, including desertification, drought, unpredictable rainfall, and extreme weather, leading to reduced food production and increased prices. Over 15 years, farmer Abdullahi Umar has seen his harvests decrease due to changes in rainfall patterns and land degradation. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) predicts a decrease in the length of the rainy season and a decrease in rainfall amounts in some areas, which could further impact agriculture. The situation has led to food scarcity and increased prices, affecting women food processors and sellers. The Katsina state government is taking steps to combat climate change and ensure food security through the Climate Change Council.
