In 2022, Kien Giang province has seen significant productivity in its agricultural sea-based activities, with fish cages producing approximately 3,535 tons of fish, mollusk farming covering 23,950 hectares and yielding around 74,465 tons of sea mussels and other products, and pearl farming spanning 100 hectares around Phu Quoc island, resulting in an estimated 70,000 commercial pearls. The province also reared around 125,000 hectares of brackish water shrimp and 60,000 hectares of freshwater shrimp. The prices for various seafood such as grouper, cobia, pompano, pomfret, brick crab, meat crab, eels, frogs, and crabs have seen notable increases. Kien Giang is promoting the use of HDPE plastic cages to protect from sea water fluctuations.
