The African Catfish Value Chain program, also known as FISH4ACP, was launched in Abuja to improve the productivity of Nigeria, the world's largest African catfish producer. Funded by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the initiative aims to enhance the value chain, boost competitiveness, and promote regional cooperation. It also focuses on sustainable management of fisheries resources and the introduction of cleaner smoking technologies to reduce environmental impact and health risks. The launch was welcomed by stakeholders, including the UN's FAO, the EU Delegation to Nigeria, and the FMARD, highlighting the potential of the catfish sector to contribute to job creation, economic growth, and food security in Nigeria.
