The U.S. turkey industry is advocating for animal health solutions and educating consumers about the benefits of turkey consumption. The National Turkey Federation (NTF) is engaging federal lawmakers to include their legislative priorities in the upcoming Farm Bill, including animal disease prevention and expanding international markets. The industry is also urging the USDA to establish a Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) Strategic Initiative to develop novel methods to prevent, detect, and respond to avian influenza. Additionally, the NTF is advocating for the import of commercial modified-live aMPV vaccines to protect turkeys from avian metapneumovirus and is actively engaging with the USDA regarding a proposed framework to reduce Salmonella illnesses attributable to poultry.
