Asia's fresh fruit imports increased by 4.1% in 2023, totaling 15.6 million tonnes, driven by stronger intra-Asian trade, particularly for tropical fruits like durians. China is the largest importer and exporter of fresh fruit in Asia, experiencing a 1.5% increase in imports and an 18% increase in exports. However, global suppliers to Asia saw mixed results, with declines from Southern Africa, Middle East and North Africa, South America, and Australasia, due to various factors such as adverse weather and logistics challenges. Vietnam and India experienced strong growth in imports, Vietnam's durian exports increasing six-fold following the market opening in China.
