A survey conducted in 2021 reveals that Bulgaria's fruit and vegetable processing businesses processed 99.3 thousand tons of fresh fruits, a 13.1% decrease from the previous year, with apples, cherries, and peaches being the most processed. Local producers contributed 55.4% of these fruits, with 20.8% from third countries and 15.3% from the EU. The businesses also processed 115.3 thousand tons of vegetables, a 9.5% increase from the previous year, with tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes being the most processed. Local producers provided 81.8% of these vegetables, with 4.7% from the EU and 2.6% from third countries. The survey, which included 203 enterprises, also indicated that 4.5% of the processed fruits and 9.1% of the vegetables were ordered specifically. The finished products from these processed fruits and vegetables were sold in Bulgaria and exported to the EU and third countries.
