The 2023 autumn-winter strawberry season experienced high prices, often surpassing 10 euros per kilo, driven by new productions from Southern Italy and Trentino Alto Adige. Although prices dropped in early 2024, they remained higher than the previous year due to balanced supply. Production from Basilicata and Campania initially declined in early May but quickly rebounded, aided by a cool climate that extended the crops' productive life and enhanced their quality. Over the past decade, outdoor strawberry production has decreased, with varieties like Sabrosa, Favetta, and Inspire being favored. In 2023, imports fell by over 22%, with Spain as the main supplier, while exports increased by over 6% in volume and nearly 18% in value.
