Between January and September of this year, Russia has seen a notable increase in sweets production by five percent, totaling around 3.1 million tons. The production of white chocolate and gingerbread has experienced the highest growth, with white chocolate production nearly doubling and gingerbread production increasing by 10 percent. Central Russia is the largest contributor to the confectionery industry, accounting for nearly half of the production.
The export of chocolate and sweets, particularly to Kazakhstan, China, and Uzbekistan, has also seen a significant rise, with a dollar equivalent volume that accounts for 72 percent of the whole of 2023, indicating a stable and growing demand. Additionally, dry biscuits and sugar products without cocoa have found popularity in the international market. Oleg Knyazkov, Deputy Director of the Center for Industry Expertise, anticipates further growth in both production volumes and export reach, aiming to strengthen Russia's position as a major confectionery manufacturer and exporter.
