The 2025/26 sugarcane campaign in Brazil confirms a worrying turn in the world's leading producer country: water scarcity and adverse climatic conditions have hit the sector hard. According to the third study by the National Supply Company (Conab), national production is estimated at 666.4 million tons, 1.6% less than in the previous cycle, despite an increase in the cultivated area. The report, published on November 4, 2025, reveals that neither the expansion of area nor improvements in agricultural management can compensate for the loss of yield due to extreme heat, prolonged drought, and irregular rainfall. The development of crops during 2024 and part of 2025 was marked by water restriction, irregular rainfall, and high temperatures, affecting mainly the Central-South region, the sugarcane heart of Brazil.
