On March 15, 2023, a crucial meeting was held at which key decisions were made to bolster the agricultural sector, particularly focusing on sugar beet farmers. Led by Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, the gathering included Major General Hisham Al-Hosari, Chairman of the Agriculture Committee in the Egyptian Parliament, and the managing directors of various sugar beet companies. The outcome of the meeting was the announcement of a significant subsidy increase for sugar beet farmers by 75 pounds per ton, in addition to existing quality-based incentives. This move is aimed at ensuring that farmers are well-compensated for their produce, with the supply price for both cane and beets set at EGP 1,100 per ton for the current harvest season. The meeting underscores the government's commitment to supporting the agricultural sector by offering competitive prices and incentives to encourage efficient farming and enhance the livelihoods of farmers, marking a crucial step towards improving Egypt's agricultural productivity and self-sufficiency in sugar.
