The Mexican government is implementing a policy to support small and medium-scale farmers, who produce half of the country's food, to improve their quality of life and ensure food security. The government's priority programs have contributed to increasing the production of healthy, safe, and quality food. In 2020, agricultural production increased by 2.0 percent, and the trend continued in 2021. The government has also been providing direct support to rural producers through various programs, dispersing 21,828.9 million pesos to 2.53 million producers in the first half of 2021. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is focusing on strategies to reduce Mexico's dependency on basic food products and to establish the countryside as a place of well-being for millions of Mexicans.
