The Global Tuna Alliance (GTA) has received support from major French retailers, including Les Mousquetaires, Système U, Lidl, Casino, and METRO, to drive changes in global tuna fisheries. The retailers will participate in the 'Module Complémentaire', a pilot initiative by GTA that will assess the sustainability of canned tuna sourcing. This aims to identify and mitigate supply chain risks. The partnership represents over 40% of the food and beverage market share in France. The GTA is also advocating for improved management of Indian Ocean tuna stocks with the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC), due to current plans being insufficient to prevent overfishing.
