Mexico: Sustainable practices in arid areas of the country will improve agricultural production

SADER PRESS RELEASE. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in conjunction with the National Commission for Arid Zones (Conaza), carries out work to counteract the effects of desertification in the primary sector. The Government of Mexico promotes projects for the capture and use of water, such as the stimulation of rainfall, hydro-agricultural works, reforestation with native species, cultivation of agricultural products with market demand and value chains. In the framework of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, it was reported that a viable response to this problem is the productive reconversion of crops that require less water. Through sustainable practices, better productive conditions can be created in the arid and semi-arid regions of the country, for the benefit of small-scale farmers and ranchers, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
