Suterra's new spotted-wing drosophila control products are registered in California, featuring zero residues and a four-month long-lasting effect.

According to the company, the spotted-wing drosophila causes tens of millions of dollars in crop losses annually, and it has been proven difficult to control through traditional means. BioMagnet Ruby employs Suterra's unique lure-and-kill technology. It features a built-in trap bag containing a highly effective lure. Pests are attracted to the lure and die after coming into contact with the insecticide-coated device. Vijay Pai, Director of Business Development at Suterra, stated that the design allows growers to significantly reduce pest populations while decreasing the amount of insecticide used by targeting the pests rather than the crops. The company noted that field trials conducted on vine berries in California showed that incorporating BioMagnet Ruby into standard integrated pest management practices resulted in an average 75% reduction in spotted-wing drosophila larvae occurrence.
