Sweden declared free of African swine fever

The European Commission has officially recognized Sweden as a country free of African swine fever (ASF) with vaccination. This is reported by the agricultural portal Agriland. The decision was made due to the fact that no new outbreaks of this disease have been registered in the country for a year. The last case of this disease was detected in September last year in Västmanland County. A wild boar died there. The European Commission also recognized Italian Sardinia as free of ASF, where no new cases have been observed recently either. The island's authorities have strengthened surveillance of wild boars, as well as biosecurity measures on pig farms. In total, ASF has been detected in 13 EU countries to date - Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Estonia.
