Sweet Potato Research Center to be built in Haenam, Jeollanam-do in South Korea

A sweet potato research center will be opened in Haenam, Jeollanam-do as early as 2025. On February 27, the National Institute of Crop Science of the Rural Development Administration held a 'Sweet Potato Supply System Improvement Dissemination Council' at the Korea Food Institute's Bioenergy Crop Research Institute in Muan, Jeollanam-do to discuss ways to improve the sweet potato supply system. About 50 people in charge of provincial agricultural technology institutes and city/county agricultural technology centers across the country attended. The market share of domestic sweet potato varieties such as ‘Hopungmi’, ‘Sodammi’, and ‘Jinyulmi’ continues to increase, increasing from 24.4% in 2017 to 37% in 2023.
