The Peruvian government has announced a successful direct export of 76 tons of red onions from the Inclán district in Tacna to Chile, thanks to the commercial partnership between local producers and Agromercado, the trading arm of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, and agro-exporter Global Fruit Produce SAC. This agreement allows for the export of 250 tons of red onions across seven shipments, supporting family farmers who cultivate on 105 hectares, resulting in a yield of 35.5 tons per hectare. This initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance the negotiating power of local farmers and extends to facilitating the management of health documents and coordination with packing companies for international dispatch. The growth in Peruvian onion exports to 105,000 tons, earning $49 million from January to July, highlights a notable increase in both volume and value compared to the previous year, with Chile being a significant market among other countries.
