[Agricultural, Fisheries and Livestock News=Reporter Kim Jeong-hee] The Taean County Agricultural Technology Center (Director Im Mi-young) advised local farmers on the 24th to thoroughly prepare for potential damage due to rice planthoppers, which are estimated to have been carried from China to the Jeonnam region last month. This year, the number of rice planthoppers in China is estimated to have doubled compared to last year, raising concerns about significant damage domestically. Special attention is needed as daytime temperatures have been higher than usual recently, which is expected to accelerate the breeding of planthoppers. Rice planthoppers are a mobile pest that travels from overseas, such as southern China, to the country on westerlies, attaching to the lower part of rice stems and sucking the sap, causing damage to farms.
