The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) has officially recognized China as a country free from African swine fever, making it the second Asian country after Japan to receive this distinction. This achievement is expected to boost China's pork export market, as it is currently only exporting to the Philippines but is in talks with Singapore and Malaysia. The status was earned due to China's rigorous border inspections and measures to prevent the disease, which have been successful in keeping the country free from the disease despite outbreaks in other parts of Asia since 2017. The Ministry of Agriculture views this recognition as a significant step towards the sustainable growth of China's animal husbandry industry.
