A recent report from an Australian government department highlights the competitive advantage of Australian vegetable produce in Taiwan, attributed to its safety and ability to offer counter-seasonal supply. Export values of Australian fresh vegetables to Taiwan surged by 21 percent in 2020–21, driven by the demand for high-quality products and a rapid expansion of retail outlets in Taiwan. Key contributors to this growth include onions, potatoes, and carrots. Australia's major vegetable exports to Taiwan included onions, potatoes, asparagus, and carrots in the 2020-21 season. The water shortage in Taiwan from late 2020 to the first half of 2021 also presented opportunities for increased supply from Australia.
