Since the beginning of the week, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has started conducting batch-by-batch inspections on fresh strawberries imported from Japan due to the discovery of excessive pesticide residue in 15 shipments over the past three months. The FDA has also identified eight other products that have failed border inspections for containing prohibited preservatives, bleaches, or high pesticide residue levels, including cherries from Chile, sparkling dark grape juice from Australia, and strawberry biscuit sticks from Thailand. The Taipei Department of Health has reported a 23.1% failure rate in its recent pesticide residue testing on fresh fruit and vegetables, with a significant portion of the failed samples being strawberries and kumquats imported from Japan.
