In 2022, Tajikistan successfully reduced its imports of wheat, flour, and rice, as reported by Mahmadsaid Fayzullozoda, the Chairman of the Food Security Committee. The country imported 918.5 thousand tons of wheat, which is a decrease of 37 thousand tons from the previous year, and achieved a wheat harvest of over 900 thousand tons. By 2025, Tajikistan aims to further increase its wheat production to 1.014 million tons while also planning to raise its wheat imports to 1.27 million tons. The country also cut its flour imports by 1.5 thousand tons, with Kazakhstan being the primary supplier, and saw a significant increase in its domestic flour production. Additionally, Tajikistan is working to decrease its rice imports, given its own production figures, which place it among the top four rice producers in Central Asia with an average yield of about 5 t/ha, one of the highest in the CIS countries. This reduction in imports and increase in domestic production is contributing to the country's food security.
