For the first time in its short aquaculture history, Argentina has achieved the opening of four South American markets for the export of rainbow trout (O. mykiss) embryo eggs. This is a milestone that will boost international trade of salmonids and promote local genetics worldwide.
According to the confirmation of the Agro-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa), Argentine eggs will now be able to enter Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. This will occur as long as the sanitary requirements set forth in Resolution 2530 of the Andean Community of Nations (CAN), a bloc formed by the aforementioned countries, are met.
In particular, the regulation aims to prevent the entry of significant zoonotic diseases for this activity.
