The Republic of Korea (RoK) has emerged as one of the top 10 individual markets importing tuna from Vietnam, with tuna exports to the RoK surging to a record high in June, reaching nearly 6 million USD, nearly six times higher than the same period in 2023. Despite this positive growth, tuna exporting companies in Vietnam are facing challenges due to a decline in raw material supply. The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has identified the RoK as a potential market for Vietnamese tuna suppliers, but domestic businesses are struggling due to a decrease in the supply of skipjack tuna in the domestic market, primarily due to new regulations on the minimum size of skipjack tuna for exploitation.
