Zanzibar has initiated a campaign to encourage domestic consumption of seaweed products with the aim of expanding the market and improving the livelihoods of farmers. The Acting Director of the Department of Policy, Planning and Research in the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries, Mr Mohammed Said Khamis, stated that the campaign would highlight the nutritional benefits of seaweed and boost production through providing farming inputs and new technology. The campaign will be implemented across five regions in Unguja and Pemba Islands, and other areas in Tanzania's mainland, with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Wakulima Hai Cooperative Society.
