The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has announced new taxes on imported chicken products and fish in an effort to level the playing field for local breeders. This decision aims to mitigate the negative impact of cheap imported meat on local producers, who have struggled to compete. The announcement was made during the budget discussions for the financial year 2024/2025 and has received support from local breeders. The government is also encouraging investment in the agricultural sector, with two investors planning to launch a large-scale chicken farming project in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy.
