The Department of International Trade Negotiations has reported that Thailand remains the world's leading durian exporter, with China being its primary market. In the first quarter of 2021, fresh durian exports to China saw a 14% increase compared to the same period in 2020, amounting to $186 million and accounting for 88% of Thailand's total fresh durian exports. This growth is largely due to the tariff exemption on fresh durian imports under the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Currently, Thai fresh durian is tariff-free in 17 countries, and with the Regional Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), South Korea may further reduce tariffs. The department also emphasizes the potential of processed durian products and the importance of maintaining product quality and standards, particularly with a growing market preference for organic produce.
