Thailand's rice exports have experienced substantial growth, with 7.45 million tons exported in the first nine months of the year, a 22.13% increase from the previous year. The export value surged by 45.85%, amounting to 172.02 billion baht (around 4.84 billion USD), driven by increased demand from key markets such as Indonesia, Iraq, and the US, especially during the holiday season as countries enhance their food security reserves. The Thai Commerce Ministry and Rice Exporters Association anticipate exports reaching 9 million tons by year-end, generating 6.4 billion USD in revenue. Thailand continues to be the world's second-largest rice exporter after India, with a 14% rise in exports in 2023 compared to 2022, exceeding the target of 8 million tons.
