Thai rice exporters are preparing for increased competition due to India's decision to lift export restrictions, potentially leading to a decrease in global prices. Despite this, October exports are expected to reach at least 700,000 tonnes due to strong demand from African importers and existing delivery contracts with Asian markets. Thai rice exports have seen a significant increase of 22% in the first nine months of 2024, reaching 7.45 million tonnes. However, prices are expected to face downward pressure after India's market return. Thailand maintains an ambitious export target of 8.5 to 8.7 million tonnes for 2024.
